Summer 2021 Internship Program


Job Description:

Effendi Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit national organization with a focus on civil rights, civic engagement, community organizing, and legal rights education for the Kurdish-American community. Our past projects included working on the census through the Kurds Count campaign, the Kurds Vote campaign, etc. We have operated in at least 12 states, reached over 140,000 people, and had a team of over 50 people from all around the country. Joining the team of a startup organization will provide you with great opportunities to learn and develop new skills, work with a collaborative team on a meaningful mission, and develop your own projects, and have the capacity to make a difference and suggestions to the organization yourself. 

Reports to: Executive Director and the Chief Operating Director

Description: The organization is looking for an individual that will intern with Effendi Foundation to create projects that are civil rights-focused. We are looking for an individual who is a team player and is an initiative-taker with a devotion to social justice issues and some knowledge of how to perform these tasks. Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Create programs that are focused on civic engagement and social justice rights, 

  • Work on maintaining our social media presence and developing our website in coordination with our communications team, 

  • Continue to develop partnerships with various organizations through direct outreach and coordination, 

  • Contribute to the fundraising efforts including through partnerships, fostering relationships with donors, applying to grants, and crowdfunding,

  • Work on drafting our annual reports and other reports specific to programs, 

  • Contribute to the development of our current project: Maf - Know Your Rights as the need arises from the team, 

  • Organize community-wide events (mostly virtual) as they arise, 

  • Maintain EF’s databases and other documents, 

  • Work on institutional development through continuously identifying other potential contributors, 

  • Initiate your own project or lead one with the support of the team. 

Qualifications: 

  • Have completed or currently enrolled in a BA program especially in the areas of Political Science, Marketing, History, Non-Profit Organization, etc. 

  • Knowledge of using various online tools, event organizing, research, and has more than one year of experience with organizing digital projects online 

  • Interest in working in nonprofits/rights-oriented organizations and current issues,

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, 

  • Time management; the ability to multi-task and work on various projects simultaneously

  • Team-work and friendliness when working with others and helping the team 

Compensation: 

  • The position is unpaid but we can work with you to get academic credit for it or to receive a letter of recommendation. 

Other Benefits:

  • Ability to take on a leadership role in the community. Interns will be provided a letter with the hours you worked and a recommendation following the satisfactory completion of their role.
